Your Family is targeted in a terrorist ploy of cat and mouse. What do you do? This is exactly what Jeff Foster's international espionage novel involves, to peek his reader with Jack Abbey's predicament in "Perimeter – The Taking of the High Seas Explorer."

The author creates a suspenseful novel set at the edge of espionage reality, bringing a Heightened touch of realism to the reader. Although the main character Jack, at times flips through heroic and fearful emotions bringing his overall presences to a lesser impact, the conclusion of his involvement comes all-together at the end.

Edgy, full of suspense beginning sets up the various factions involved. A bit confusing at first with the introduction of several new characters and locations. But their play in this espionage game soon clears up.

Although several places could have used tighter editing, the overall read and feel of the book was kept intact. The author takes you on a fantastic trip to Belize and Mexico, capturing their visual scenery with his descriptive details.

In a world where computer chips and technology moves forward, enter Perimeter, realistically authenticating the 'what if' factor when an important developmental chip gets stolen. Covert deception abounds to uproot a deadly underground Cartel's plot. Adrenaline pumps away as Jack Abbey, along with a secret organization, try to locate and
Retrieve an important security chip before an ex-employee has time to arm it. His fuel? to secure the safety of his family from this terrorist group.

Having read Ludlum espionage books, I have to say Jeff Foster did an amazing job connecting his characters with the reader. A bit of Stephen King's style is seen as well; descriptive details in the beginning acquaint you with the characters, then by halfway, you're hooked to find out what happens to them.

Overall, a good read.

For fans of fast-paced international action in the best tradition of masters like Allen Furst and John Le Carré comes Perimeter, a gripping marriage of high-tech gadgetry, espionage and intrigue.

Business owner Jack Abbey has laid his company and career on the line to develop the computer technology required for a lucrative Department of Defense contract only to have that technology stolen and his whiz kid engineer murdered.

Thrown into a situation beyond his comprehension, Jack quickly finds himself caught up in the power struggle between a brilliant mastermind, whose compound in Belize is guarded with cutting-edge weaponry, and numerous international espionage agencies that may or may not be acting in the best interests of the free world in their pursuit of this self-styled terrorist.

Author Jeff Foster’s mastery of the chase is enhanced by rock-solid plotting and strong characterizations. His dark protagonist Miguel and hulking henchman Caribe are as solidly crafted as the heroic Jack, his faithful partner Cliff, and the likeable old warhorses Peachy and Smits—characters that breathe realism into a tale where much of the action takes place in the close confines of a ship. Bristling with weapons and electronic gadgetry, the terrorists aboard the High Seas Explorer seem to have the game well in hand as Jack and his outnumbered (and rather aged) allies wage a seemingly hopeless war against them with time running out and Jack’s wife and daughter held hostage back home in the United States.

Foster is adept at blending high-tech wizardry with non-stop action and just enough violence to hold readers hostage. The result is a satisfying standout in the popular genre of international espionage.

This is a good book! One of the best adventures I’ve read in a long time!
Perimeter The Taking of The High Seas Explorer by Jeff Foster is a Must-Read!

Have you ever imagined what you would do if you and your family were caught within a terrorist plot? Well, Perimeter by Jeff Foster will provide that opportunity. It is an exciting story of a very reluctant hero and his family (both personal and business) who were pulled, quite unexpectedly and unwillingly, into a world of terror! Jack Abbey is head of a small computer firm, Abbey Tech, specializing in creating components needed for security systems. Having won a sub-contract for the primary part, the main processing unit, Jack happily rewards Brian Frost, his hardware engineer and whiz kid, by allowing him to make the presentation directly to Macrotell. This company has been commissioned by the Department of Defense to create a new high technology perimeter defense system, which could incorporate existing weapons technologies. The presentation goes well…and the company representatives are thrilled.

Only one problem then faced Brian—he had been so busy preparing for the presentation and the meeting, that a primary body function had been postponed far too long. Making it to the bathroom, he noticed one stall occupied, but immediately went on to a urinal. It was very well planned because—only a few minutes later, the other man casually left the bathroom, leaving Brian dead on the cold tiles.
With shock and remorse, Jack learns of Brian’s death from Cliff Macen, his security chief.

Then it dawned on him—the prototypes were gone! Jack had sunk everything and more into obtaining and completing this contract. If the prototypes were not found, he would lose everything! He asked Cliff to
contact Keri Moore, his software systems designer, and meet at the office, but Keri was more prone to criticize than consider how to help.

Later, his wife hands him a threatening letter from a man who approached her at the grocery story.

Only too soon Cliff calls and tells him that Keri has left the country. With little notice, Cliff wants Jack and him to follow Keri.

In a whirlwind of confusion as to what is happening, he decides to follow his instincts and go with Cliff, sending his wife and daughter to stay with her family.

Finally, Jack finds himself in Belize, a place he’d never even heard of, and thinking that he is in way over his head.

And he is right! Along the way he learns that one or more people at Macrotell was involved, and worst of all, that Cliff has been involved for months and has maneuvered Jack to be exactly where he wanted.

Who are the good guys (guys that claim they represent a unit of the Department of Homeland Security and the Defense Department) and who are the bad guys? Jack has only his instincts and the basic training he received in the service. Now he’s being asked to fight against terrorists. And Keri is there with those terrorists! Is she, too, a traitor—has she sold out his company and, even now, bringing up the prototype system into use?

As more and more information is received, there is a real concern that the prototype perimeter system might be used, right there in Belize, to hold thousands of people hostage—on one of the many cruise ships that routinely visit the country.

Perimeter is so fast-paced that readers will find it hard to put down! The story rings true in an all-too-real time when terrorists roam the world, constantly creating new ways to seek revenge, money, or recognition for their “cause.” The book is well written and effectively explains the involved technology and its role in the development of defense systems. And, of course, the havoc such systems can also cause.

What I enjoyed most were the characters! Foster has created individuals that become very real to the reader. Jack Abbey’s in-laws are not only able to take care of his wife and daughter, they, along with their neighbors, work to fight the terrorists. Additionally, one of the most important members of the formal team is a retired British officer who has lived in Belize and worked many years to protect and serve his community there.

The use of characters—older family members, neighbors, business associates¾who use their many years of experience to not just aid, but lead, in homeland security, helped to create a much more realistic and exciting story.

Foster has gone beyond the books where a given terrorist act is explored and resolved. Foster takes you into the lives of people like you and me who could be caught up into a world totally alien from the lives we know.

This book is not only a fun read…it’s a memorable one! Don’t miss it!

Perimeter is a high tension plot that's set out on the high seas. Foster takes his readers as well as his main character, along for an exciting ride that includes new technology, dangerous spies, and some wonderful co-horts. Each are exceptionally unique and brilliant three dimensional characters that readers will become attached to and follow throughout the story.

Perimeter: The Taking of The High Seas Explorer by Jeff Foster is a story of suspense and espionage centering around the theft of new technology and terrorism. It kept me interested, wanting to see what would happen next. While I don't generally seek out or enjoy books or movies about war or the military, I enjoyed this one and would recommend it to those who enjoy the genre. - Michelle Ailene True for www.BookIdeas.com (author, ezine publisher, newsletter columnist and writing workshop facilitator - www.michelleailenetrue.com)
